It’s Xmas time, so that can only mean one thing – that Deano takes his place at Alexandra Palace for the William Hill Darts World Championships! Dean is 26th seed, but he has to take on the vastly experienced stage player Wayne Jones, so a far from easy draw.
Dean’s game is Sunday afternoon, and he’ll hope to win and have a great Christmas dinner! Lorraine his lovely wife will be there cheering him on as she often does.
Sunday December 21
Round 1: Dean Winstanley 3-2 Wayne Jones
Dean wins a close game – breaking Wayne to take the last set 3-1. A good Xmas it will be, as Dean will be in round two.
Round 2: Dean Winstanley 4-3 Darren Webster
A VERY VERY close game – Dean powers away into a lead, but then after the first two sets his scoring goes away, and Webster wins the next 3 sets. Dean brings the game back to 3-3, and then at 2-2 in the final set, Dean makes the so important break of Webster’s throw, and then holds throw after Webster misses one leg dart to move into the last 16!
3rd Round: Dean Winstanley 2-4 Vincent van der Voort
A terrible start for Dean, as his usually fantastic scoring deserts him, and he finds it nearly impossible to hit more than one triple in a throw. Vincent takes the first two sets in double time, and it’s not looking good. Suddenly in set three Dean gets his concentration back, and he takes out 97 on tops to in the set in the deciding leg. A good start to set 4 after that, hitting d3 to break Vincent’s throw. At 2-2 in set 4, Dean needs 114 to level the game, but his first dart flies left of target into triple 5, and his chance is gone, VvdV goes 3-1 up in sets. Dean has another good set, keeping himself in the game as the fans chant “Deano, Deano.” and “En-ger-land”. But it’s not to be, as Vincent takes the 6th set.
