William Hill Grand Slam of Darts; Quarter and Semi Finals

Dean vs Painter

I’m sure the cries of “Deano, Deano” will ring out at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall this afternoon, as Dean Winstanley takes on Kevin Painter in the first quarter final clash of the day.

It’s going to be a battle of Dean’s high scoring, vs Kevin’s high quality finishing.  That said, Dean has been hitting the doubles well this tournament, let’s hope he can keep that roll going!   Kevin beat Dean in the group stage, so Dean does owe him that back.

It’s the first to 16 legs today, so plenty of time to get into a scoring rhythm.

Quarter Final

Dean Winstanley 16-12 Kevin Painter

DEANO WINS!   A real game of nerves.. true bottle shown by both players, but Dean set-up an early lead, which he held on to through the game.  Hits his favourite tops to win the game and make the semi-final tomorrow – and that means 2 more years in the Grand Slam too, with an invite back.   DEANO, DEANO!

Semi Final

Dean plays his semi final today (Sunday), on second live on Sky Sports, against the Dutch sensation Michael van Gerwen.  Dean knows it’s going to be a tough match, playing against the man who put out Phil Taylor, but with his fans behind him, you know he’ll give it his all!

Afternoon Session – 1pm-5pm – Semi-Finals

Andy Hamilton 10-16 Raymond van Barneveld
Michael van Gerwen 16-8 Dean Winstanley

Well what a game.   Unfortunately for Dean, he came up against a player who must be number 1 in the world at the moment, and his first 10 legs were AWESOME by anyone’s standard.  Dean was 10-1 down, and it showed true Yorkshire grit and determination to win the next half of the game 7-6, but unfortunately Dean ran out of legs.  Still, a great performance, and and a fantastic tournament.   Look out for Deano at the World Champs at the end of the year! (and if he can have a good next weekend in Barnsley, possibly in the Player Champs finals from 30th Nov…)

MvG 7×180 & 101.83 ave. 170 highest out.  Dean Winstanley 9×180, 98.94 ave. 116 highest out.
