Dean makes the Grand Prix, let’s hope he will be holding one of these trophies in Dublin!

After the long break the darts really is back with a bang now – and Dean joined his fellow PDC Professionals at Barnsley, for two more ProTour events.

Round 1: Dean Winstanley 6-2 Mark Jones
Round 2:  Dean Winstanley 6-2 Joe Cullen
Round 3:  Wes Newton 6-4 Dean Winstanley

A good run, with it taking a top 10 player to stop Dean from progressing further.  £400 won.

On Sunday Dean had his partner Lorraine come to cheer him on, after she herself was 2nd in Saturday’s Lincoln Ladies Classic event.  Dean was also joined by his manager Matt Ward of MDA Promotions, who had come to cheer on the team.

Round 1: Dean Winstanley 6-4 Steve Beaton
Round 2: Dean Winstanley 6-2 Adrian Bolitho
Round 3:  Prakash Jiwa 6-4 Dean Winstanley

A very tough first round game – with a lot on the line… Both Dean and Steve Beaton were fighting for a place in the Grand Slam in Dublin, so a lot of pressure in the last leg!   Dean unfortunately was having a bad day on the doubles, and he had many darts to take legs in his 3rd round match vs Prakash.  But it wasn’t too be, but Dean may have done enough with £800 earned over the weekend to make the Grand Prix… it was down to other resuts….

While it was a close thing, Dean has had more great news, so in his own words;

“Just had confirmation I’ve made the Grand Prix in Dublin, well pleased! .In my first 7 months in the PDC I’ve made the UK Open,  Matchplay, just missed out on the European championships by I think 1500 quid roughly (but I did try!), and now the Grand Prix. It’s a bloody tough run but over the moon.  Onwards and upwards.

I’d like to thank MDA, Winmau, Caralot, DG Utilities and also Lyons for all their support.   OK and RMW Bathrooms and Kitchens mike keeps me on the straight and narrow!”  – Dean Winstanley
