Dean sorted for June's UK Open in Bolton

Dean travelled down to Crawley for his 2nd PDC event, the first two  (of eight) UK Open qualifiers – looking to win a place at June’s UK Open finals in Bolton – a tournament which has a unique format and place in the hearts of the PDC darts fans.  It was a long couple of days – as some 190+ players turned up to compete from all around Europe, making for a lot of prelim games.

Nothing is sure, but £400 would probably be enought to qualify – so Dean was looking to make sure at the first time of asking…

Saturday’s Results

Round 1:  Dean Winstanley 6-5 Paul Rowley
Round 2:  Dean Winstanley 6-5 Dyson Parody
Round 3:  Dean Winstanley 6-4 James Wade
Round 4:  William O’Connor 6-5 Dean Winstanley

£600 won, which will be enough for Bolton qualification (unless this year something very different happens!) – job done!   A great win vs. one of the Worlds greatest players, James Wade, and a very close loss against Irish talent O’Connor, who was in great form.

Sunday’s Results

Round 1:  Dean Winstanley 6-0 Tony West
Round 2:  Dean Winstanley 6-1 Colin Monk
Round 3:  Johnny Haines 6-5 Dean Winstanley

£400 earned on Sunday –  but Dean was still disappointed as he had match darts to win the board final against Haines – but a solid start, with good wins against West and Monk.  With a £1,000 put towards his ranking, we will definitely see Dean in Bolton – lets hope for a TV appearance on the main stage!

Dean’s PDC journey starts this weekend, on the pro tour which starts in Benidorm – which I hear isn’t quite as sunny as the players would hope

Day 1 Results:

Prelim:  Dean Winstanley 6-2 Paul Barham (stage game 1)
Round 1:  Kim Huybrechts 6-3 Dean Winstanley

A tough introduction into the life as a PDC pro on Saturday, with a first round game that would grace any later stage of a TV event!

Still another day tomorrow, results from 12 noon…

Day 2 Results:

Round 1:  Dean Winstanley 6-4 Terry Temple
Round 2: Dean Winstanley 6-1 Wayne Jones

A much better 2nd day for Dean, beating some big names, £600 on the rankings, and that’s got to give him confidence for the rest of the year!

We are pleased to be able to announce that Dean ‘over the top’ Winstanley, fresh from his PDC Q School success has signed with the management team behind Justin Pipe; MDA and Mitchell Promotions.

From Dean himself about his move to the PDC…

“After a fantastic 3 years learning the trade on the BDO circuit, I made the decision to enter the PDC qualifying school this year. I was offered a tour card last year but turned it down as I did not feel ready and to a certain degree it didnt feel right to take the tour card without earning it through Q school. If I was to take the step then I didnt want an easy ride and I didnt get one!! Thursdays and fridays qs were a wake up call and although playing well I didnt really get into gear. Saturday was different and Im proud to announce that I am now in posession of a PDC tour card. I have good people around me, I have financial backing both from sponsors and from my own earnings on the BDO circuit so the foundations are in place to acheive the initial goal of competing in every players champonship this year. If my form holds then there is an excellent chance of reaching the next goal which is the PDC World Championships. I am looking forward to meeting new players and officials plus experiencing new venues and atmospheres. I have proved myself on both BDO and PDC stages already so I am not daunted by the future at all.”

Dean has just joined the PDC, after a very successful time in the BDO, and is looking forwards to his adventure in the PDC teamed up with the new exciting management teams in darts.  Dean will kick off his PDC career at the first pro tour event of the year, in sunny Benidorm this weekend, joining his new stablemate Justin Pipe on the tour.

“Dean is a class player, who has made the Lakeside and World Masters finals while in the BDO.  He has the game to follow in Dave Chisnall’s footsteps by making a real splash in the PDC in his first year.  His three days at the Q School recently has prepared him well for playing in the professional PDC circuit, which all starts this weekend in Benidorm” - Matt Ward, MDA Promotions.

Dean Winstanley, possibly celebrating this new website

Welcome!

Welcome to this, the new home of PDC Darts Professional, Dean ‘over the top’ Winstanley.

Dean thought that it was time for a new start in both his darts, and his website to celebrate his move in codes for 2012.

The site is being created and maintained by darts web ‘guru’ Kristian ‘Krispy’ Brown, who also manages the sites of fellow PDC pros Justin Pipe, James Richardson, and Terry Jenkins.

Please stick with us as content is put back into the site – it should be done by the end of Sunday 29th Jan – just in time to hopefully update Dean’s results from his first PDC pro tour event in Benidorm.
