Dean on Tour; UK Open Qualifiers 3&4
Dean joined the 220+ PDC darts pros turned up at Wigan at the weekend to play in two more PDC UK Open qualifiers – all hoping to qualify for the Bolton finals in June. That huge number unfortunately meant a lot of prelims, with dangerous games needed to be won before any ranking money could be earned.
Saturday Qualifier 3
Round 1: Dean Winstanley 6-1 James Richardson
Round 2: Adrian Lewis 6-3 Dean Winstanley
Sunday Qualifier 4
Round 1: Vernon Sheppard 6-1 Dean Winstanley
What can only be described as a disappointing weekend for Dean – with no money added to his UK Open qualification pot. There are no easy games, and few are harder than taking on 2 times world champion Adrian Lewis, which stopped Dean after a strong win against James Richardson.
Dean’s total of £200 after 4 qualifiers won’t be enough to qualify yet, but with four more events to go (all in Wigan), we’re sure Over the Top will build is earnings and make Bolton, class will tell!
European Darts Trophy – Euro Tour 2
In better news – Dean’s great floor form over the last year or so has pushed him into the top 32 in the order of merit, and so he qualified for the 2nd PDC European tour event by right.
The draw has been made, and he will play the Scot John Henderson in the first round. The Euro events come with a large prize fund, with £500 minimum just for making the 1st round, and a top prize of £20,000
