Dean Leaves it Late, but is Bolton Bound

Dean Leaves it Late, but is Bolton Bound!

UK Open qualifiersWith a sense of theatre, Dean left qualification for the Speedy Services UK Open finals in Bolton down the the last day of the eight events.

With just £400 won after qualifier seven, Dean and his friends and management knew that it was going to be a tense day on Sunday in Wigan, where over 200 darts players were fighting for places at the Sky Sports televised event in June.

No-one was sure on what would be required to qualify – but we knew it would be either £600-£800 – so Dean needed to win several games and £400 to be ‘safe’.

Unfortunately the completely open draw did Winstanley no favours, with a very tough prelim against his friend Steve Beaton!

Prelim:  Dean Winstanley 6-4 Steve Beaton
Round 1:  Dean Winstanley 6-4 Mark Forman
Round 2:  Dean Winstanley 6-2 Gary Whittles
Round 3:  Brendan Dolan 6-5 Dean Winstanley

Dean’s run to the 3rd round proper won him £400, making his total UK Open qualification £800, and SAFELY THROUGH for the TV finals.  That shows some bottle and fight winning through on the last day… hopefully next year Dean will make an easier job of it!
