Dean at the Austrian Darts Open 2014

Euro Tour; Dean at the Austrian Darts Open 2014

Dean qualified for the Austrian Darts Open, another PDC European tour event, with 48 top players across Europe playing for the £100,000 prize fun, on a big stage in front of the Austrian darts fans.

Dean beats a European qualifier Uwe Bacher in round 1, only to be drawn against the worlds current number 1, Michael van Gerwen.  But fate lends a hand, and MvG  has to retire from the tournament with a recurrance of his bad ankle, so Dean gets a bye into Sunday’s round 3!

Austrian Darts Open

Round 1:  Dean Winstanley 6-1 Uwe Bacher
Round 2:  Dean Winstanley bye  (MvG pulls out of tournament with ankle injury)
Round 3:  Dean Winstanley 3-6 Wes Newton

Dean goes out in the third round to his good friend Wes Newton, which will be the topic of some Twitter banter between the two I’m sure. £2,000 prize money won by Dean towards the rankings.
