Dean takes part in the worlds biggest darts tournament, as he takes his place in the PDC 2016 World Darts Championships. With a £300,000 first prize, and £10,000 on offer to first round losers, this is the greatest ever prize in darts.
It’s all being shown live on Sky Sports, which has it’s own 24/7 darts channel during the three weeks of the tournament.
Deano’s first game at the worlds is Tuesday (22nd Dec), against Ronny Huybrechts, the older of the two Belgium darts brothers.
Round 1: Dean Winstanley 2-3 Ronny Huybrechts
An amazingly entertaining game where nerves got the better of both players half way through the game. Dean started with a great first set, 96 ave and everything going well, but from then on it was a stand up fight, both players taking it to the deciding set, and Ronny won 6-4 in the last set.
SET ONE: 3-0
Winstanley hit a 180 and took out 56 to win the first leg before a 96 checkout gave him a break of throw. The Yorkshireman then landed tops to win the first set.
SET TWO: 1-3
The first two legs were shared before Huybrechts pinned double 12 and took out 64 to restore parity in the match.
SET THREE: 3-2
Both players hit 180s in the first two legs, which were shared before Winstanley edged ahead on double eight. He then fired in his third maximum but Huybrechts pegged double 12 to level. Winstanley produced a brilliant 120 finish to seal the set though.
SET FOUR: 0-3
Huybrechts took the match to a deciding set with finishes of 72, 80 and 65.
SET FIVE: 4-6
The pair shared the first four legs, taking the match to a tie-break, where a margin of two legs was required for victory. With the match tied at four legs apiece, Huybrechts produced an amazing 164 checkout when his opponent was waiting on tops and, with Winstanley again waiting on a double, Huybrechts took out 104 to seal a dramatic win.
